The Club offers stroke survivors a meeting place to socialise in a happy and relaxed environment.
The Chichester Stroke Club provides support to people of all ages who have suffered a stroke and their carers. It aims to help stroke survivors to be less isolated by providing social, recreational and therapeutic activities. It also promotes and maintains close relationships with organisations interested in stroke survivors and their welfare.
Why the community needs usThe Club is a unique facility providing continued aftercare and encouragement to stroke survivors when they leave hospital through mental and physical stimulation. Support and respite for carers and partners, enabling them to meet likeminded people in a relaxed environment. Raising awareness of stroke to the local community through fundraising, website, speakers and outings.
Our impact on the communityStroke survivors grow in confidence through social contact and learn to cope better with their disabilities. They are able to share news and views and support each other in times of need.
The regular weekly exercises improve mobility and give encouragement to carry on exercising at home.
Members take an active part in management, fundraising and planning the weekly programme, boosting self esteem and enabling the members to run their own Club with the help of the volunteers.
The Club is seeking a relief escort/driver to transport members to and from the Club via minibus. This is not an arduous task and full training is given.
This would not be a commitment every Thursday but would enable the Club to transport its members every week when the regular escorts/drivers are on holiday or away for anything unforeseen. There is always an escort and driver on each vehicle.
