The Friary is based in Nottingham and offers advice and welfare services to local homeless and unemployed people. We provide 3 drop-in sessions a week offering 1 to 1 advice around debt, welfare benefits, housing and budgeting. From the advice sessions we are able to offer emergency welfare services such as food parcels, clothing, travel costs or household items to those in crisis situations. We offer a breadth of health services including access to a G.P, dentistry, optometry and chiropody.
Why the community needs usThe Friary offer open access support services to those suffering the effects of poverty within the local community. All our services are intentionally designed to be easy to access so that members of the local community who are in need can simply present themselves to us and access a multitude of support services. Our wide range of volunteering opportunities also enables the local community to be involved in assisting those living in poverty locally.
Our impact on the communityOur service achieves the following outcomes:- Early intervention preventing evictions - Better physical and mental health for our service users - Service users are able to manage their finances more effectively - Service users feel less socially isolated and feel part of a community- Our volunteers feel empowered and involved in addressing the needs of our community
Volunteers are key to what we do and we have a variety of different volunteer roles. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the centre either by email: admin@the-friary.org.uk or using 01159825448
