About

Somerset Youth Dance Company (SYDC) has been selected to represent the South West in Youth Dance England’s national U.DANCE Festival on 27 June. 14 dancers aged between 15-19 years old from SYDC are now looking to raise money to make it happen! It will cost £130 per person (14 dancers & 2 adults = £2080) which covers food & accommodation. Train travel is an extra £620. Our initial target is to raise £1000 - anything over will be brilliant! SYDC is a group of gifted & talented young dancers aged 13-21 from throughout Somerset, who share the passion and enthusiasm to perform and dance together. The group is coordinated by Take Art. In March SYDC was selected for their excellent performance at the U.DANCE South West regional platform, where 15 youth dance groups showcased their work to each other, a public audience and a professional selection panel. The panel selected just two groups from the South West to perform at Youth Dance England’s national platform, U.DANCE 2014, in Nottingham this June. SYDC and Cornish group 4 Funx Sake will join some twenty selected youth groups from across the UK, as well as National Dance Companies from England, Scotland and Wales. SYDC's winning performance of 'Falling to Take Flight'was choreographed for them by Steven Martin from Retina dance company. They are performing at Nottingham Playhouse on the Friday night, on the same night and stage as the National Youth Dance Company. They are very excited to represent their region on a professional platform and hope you can help make this happen! Katey Leader, Director of Take Art Dance who leads the group said, “this is such a fantastic opportunity for these young dancers to represent their county & region on a national scale. It is always hard for the rural counties to get together to rehearse and these dancers travel a long way to do so. Their continued commitment & passion for dance has been thoroughly rewarded with this accolade and I am extremely proud of them.”
