Heart for Hathersage aims to meet the community's desire for a focal point at its heart.
Our ambition is to create an attractive village centre where people can gather in comfort and safety, daily and for special occasions. It will also be an informative place where visitors can meet and find out about Hathersage and its surroundings. The area identified as the 'heart' of Hathersage is the paved area around the Parish Rooms, the current toilet/bus shelter block and the surrounding pavements at the corner of Main Road and The Crofts.
Why the community needs usResidents and visitors will gain an attractive place to to rendezvous with tourist and local history information clearly displayed, saving the need to ask in local shops for directions. Those who frequent the centre of Hathersage also complain about the poor state of the public toilets, and the dingy bus shelter that lies over 20 metres from the bus stop. The toilets will be replaced with updated facilities and there will be a new bus shelter adjacent to the stop.
Our impact on the communityThe end result will provide an attractive, landscaped area that will act as a 'hub', not only for the village of Hathersage (population 1800), but also for the whole of the Hope Valley and the thousands of visitors who come here to climb on world-famous Stanage Edge, to run, ramble or mountain bike around the valley, or to visit the many historical sites in the area.
