Concrete Circus is a circus skills workshop aimed at people aged 6 (Year 2) to 18 (Year 13). It is tutor led and all tutors are CRB checked and have valid Public Liability Insurance. We aim to teach lots of different circus skills to a performable level. These skills include stilt-walking, tightrope, juggling, diabolo and much, much more.
Why the community needs usWe teach students from many different backgrounds and with several disabilities. The skills we give them improve them physically, increases their confidence (when they perform or when they succeed at something difficult) and improves their abilities to communicate to their peers and to adults. We perform at a number of local events and raise the profile of Milton Keynes nationally.
Our impact on the communityIn 2012 Concrete Circus performed at 3 local schools, the local museum, a street party and a Brownies event locally. They also performed in the show of Milton Keynes Juggling Convention along with top acts from around the country. They were part of Godiva Awakes (a cultural olympiad project) and attended a national event for youth circus at Wookey Hole. Concrete Circus is on the committee of the UK Youth Circus Network.
We need people who are able to bring additional circus skills to the children of Concrete Circus. An ability with acrobatics, aerial skills, unusual skills or advanced unicycle skills would be a bonus. A willingness to work with children is essential. We also need people who are good at fund raising or with an aptitude at promoting a group within a very small budget. We also could do with someone who has experience in choreographing circus shows.
